Sepp Blatter suddenly resigns as head of FIFA – Politics

It seems that not everyone supported my mandate – said Sepp Blatter, who just days ago was elected again as president of FIFA.

Blatter announced to organize the extraordinary congress of the federation, during which his successor will be chosen. Swiss led the organization for 17 years, will also remain at its head until the election of a new president.

FIFA is very close to me. That’s why I made that decision. I care about this institution, as well as for football worldwide – said Blatter.

Friday’s FIFA presidential elections were held in an atmosphere of corruption scandal associated with the arrests of high-ranking activists of the federation. 79-year-old Blatter to resign from FIFA called for, among others, leadership President of Great Britain David Cameron.

recently ran because I thought it was the best thing I can do. My mandate, however, does not have the support of all – announced today in Zurich.

His sudden decision could be associated with the new publication “New York Times”. The American newspaper wrote that the secretary-general and one of the closest collaborators Blatter, Frenchman Jerome Valcke, in 2008, gave up $ 10 million. on account managed by Jack Warner, the former vice-president of FIFA.

According to the “New York Times” transfer was supposed to be a “key element” of the investigation the FBI and the consequent indictment, in connection with which last week arrested several prominent activists FIFA. That said money was ensured South Africa that will host the World Cup in 2010.

A separate criminal investigation launched Swiss authorities. Rustic service check, how did you choose the host championships in 2018 and 2022 respectively the Qatar and Russia.

Are resignation Blatter gives you a chance to clean up FIFA? Already a few days ago Marcin Friday warned that a change at the helm does not necessarily mean changes in the exchange federation:

Even if Blatter decides that he has fulfilled his mission – wrote in his commentary – it’s unlikely that his place was taken by someone decent. Too many corpses is tucked away in closets fifowskich to hand over power random people.
