GKS Tychy qualify for the final of the Continental Cup and this is the most successful Polish club for 23 years. Is this achievement can make a difference in the Polish hockey? – I’ll say this: we played in the national team, the presidents of PZHL always said – go into the elite and everything will change. And as we walked in, they were devastated – says Sebastian Gonera, eight-time champion of Polish, among others, against GKS Tychy.
Interia: Honestly – you expect that GKS Tychy can advance to the final of the Continental Cup?
Sebastian Gonera: Key was a match with FC Shakhter Soligorsk. GKS before the season played with them two friendlies – one won and one lost. In France, apparently tyszanie were in a better disposal and defeated Belarusians.
The last time the Polish team so far had gone 23 years ago, when Unia Oswiecim took sixth place in the European Cup.
– Well, some time has passed. I remember that once Polonia Bytom was probably in the final, but after years, it’s hard to compare these results. This promotion is a great success GKS. You can see that the president of Tychy loves hockey and mostly his merit that the best hockey players play in GKS-ie.
And what was successful in the sport?
– It’s hard to say, because today I’m not so close to the team. But since I can remember, this strength GKS was collective. The basis is, however, the organization – the club is put together, and the players know where they stand.
Promotion GKS can make in Polish hockey starts be going better?
– I will say this: we played in the national team, the presidents of PZHL always said – go into the elite world championships and everything will change. And as we walked in, they were devastated because it meant trouble for them. Totally did not believe in us.
About GKS play in the final?
– In France, they found that between them and the rest there is no gap. But even with the hosts played as equals. They can fight with them, as well as with other teams (in the tournament, which will be held from 8 – January 10, 2016. Gets even Italian Asiago Hockey AS and Danish Herning Blus Fox – ed. Ed). All meetings should be at the crossroads. We’ll be the guys holding our fingers crossed, but today first of all have to congratulate them.
