DFB President Wolfgang Niersbach asserted that there was not a secret fund, or bribe the occasion to choose the organizer of the World Cup in 2006.

By Niersbach, Beckenbauer and Sepp Blatter had a meeting “face to face” in January 2002, during which the FIFA President spoke of a subsidy amounting to EUR 170 million to help the Germans in the tournament. To unlock the subsidy, the Financial Committee of FIFA, however, demanded 10 million Swiss francs (6.7 million euros) and this sum had to pass the late head of the Adidas Group, Robert Louis-Dreyfus.
