World Cup Cycling: Peter Sagan best eighth place Michal Kwiatkowski – Onet.pl

Almost exactly a year ago, September 28, Michal Kwiatkowski after the attack seven kilometers before the finish in the Spanish Ponferrada won the world title in the road race. Now in the US Richmond she fought it to defend the rainbow jersey. In battle he was accompanied by five other White and Red Maciej Paterski (everyday CCC-SPRANDI-POLKOWICE), Michal Golas (Etixx – Quick-Step), Thomas Marczyński (Torku Sekerspor), Maciej Bodnar and Rafal Majka (Tinkoff – Saxo).

The rivalry was fought at counting wearing little more than sixteen kilometers round, which although seemingly looked relatively easy, quick presented its darker side. In total, the riders had to overcome the 261.4 kilometer. Collecting over Richmond at the moment of taking off the dark clouds foreshadowed the struggles of riders quickly can vary the rain. This appeared only fleetingly, but emotions still missing.

Shortly after take-off from the peloton broke up small group, which after a while formed eight composed by Carlos Alzate (Colombia), Andriy Kripta (Ukraine), Jesse Sergent (New Zealand), Benjamin King (United States), Conor Dunne (Ireland), Ivan Stevic (Serbia) Sung Baek Park (South Korea) and Sergei Ţvetcov (Romania). Refugees rapidly developed over a four-minute advantage, but leading the main group of Dutch did not let her on more. This, on one of the ramps was torn into two parts, but Michal Kwiatkowski riding vigilantly avoided trouble and after a short time joined the peloton again.

Advantage departure, despite the dedicated work of the Dutch remained at around four minutes. Did not happen, despite the relatively good weather waunków, no accidents, attended, among others, Simon Geschke (Germany) and Cesar Rojas (Costa Rica). About 180 kilometers from the finish line in front of the main group put forward a White-Reds. Michal Kwiatkowski assisted by Maciej Bodnar moved forward in the paved driveway at Libby Hill. A moment later joined by the other Poles, who together with Oranje and Belgians led the chase.

The peloton significantly curled the rate of only about 150 kilometers before the finish, quickly reducing the distance separating him from escaping. This, however, showed that there is currently no intention to forgive and said the attack, which hustled into trouble a large part of the main group, not able to deal with paved driveways. In the meantime, departing from its two riders: Andriy Kripta (Ukraine) and Sung Baek Park (South Korea) and the prosecution gave Serb Stevic. Join the refugees decided to turn the representative of Costa Rica, Juan Carlos Rojas, but alone was not able to make up a large difference.

More serious actions offensive began after crossing the hundredth kilometer. Departure pursuing peloton split into two smaller groups. In the first one, numbering more than a dozen players were Rafal Majka and Maciej Paterski. A group looked strong, was it Peter Sagan (Slovakia) and “Purito” Rodriguez, but perhaps launched a campaign too early, because not having a representative Germany immediately be deleted. Further, who tried to jerk the group were Belgians. Their action for 80 kilometers before the finish once again split the peloton, but nor Kwiatkowski, or on the other Poles did not make much of an impression.

Moments after the jump attack launched its four: Jarlinson Pantano (Colombia), Guillaume Boivin (Canada), Taylor Phinney (USA) and Konstantin Siwcow (Belarus). After a moment, he tried to escape or run over Gatis Smukulis (Latvia), but this art he failed. The stone-paved driveway with the peloton attacked the Belgian, Sep Vanmarcke. He gained several seconds of advantage and after a while doskoczyli to him too Daniele Benatti (Italy), Ian Stannard (Great Britain) and Simon Geschke (Germany). Also this attempt, however, did not bring good luck and after a while everything was back in order.

Another brought kilometers another, more or less successful attempts, but at 40 kilometers from the finish still only modest escape preceded by a speeding peloton. We managed to delete it five thousand meters later, just before Libby Hill. There is very nicely showed up Kwiatkowski, rapidly gaining several positions and entering the peak in second place.

How it turns out, it was an excellent decision for a Pole. After entering the second ramps formed had a very strong departure, in which he co-found Daniel Moreno (Spain), Ian Stannard (Wilek Britain), Tom Boonen (Belgium), Elia Viviani (Italy), Bauke Mollema (Netherlands) and Andrey Amador (Costa Rica). A group of very well worked, increasing its lead, which 25 km before the finish was 30 seconds. In the chasing peloton they tried Germans and Australians, but lacked the power and the Italians and the Belgians did everything to independently dictate the slow pace respectively.

On the penultimate round of the climbs but the group eventually merged. Kwiatkowski continue to vigilantly rode at the front and began to prance others. He started again Konstatnin Siwcow (Belarus), for which he ran Tyler Farrar (United States). Before the last uphill but this attack was neutralized. From the beginning strongly he went after it, Peter Sagan (Slovakia), which proved to be the fastest and the predominance of a few seconds he ran to the finish line. Furiously chased by the other, a dozen or so group, which was also the ‘Flower’, but catch up on conventions Slovak is unable to nobody. He ran to the finish line a few seconds ahead of the other riders, all of which proved to be the fastest, Michael Matthews (Australia) and ramūnas navardauskas (Lithuania). Michal Kwiatkowski was eighth.
