Polish volleyball enjoyed historic success. Two clubs – Asseco Resovia and Skra Belchatow – advanced to the finals of the Champions League, where he will face the four best teams in Europe! As our team have built their power?
The development of the retina in Belchatow began in 1991, when the club acquired the patronage of the Power Station. After ten years of Spark won its first major success. In the 2001/2002 season, picked up the bronze medal in the Polish championship.
In the season 2004/2005 Spark Polish champions and dominated the game for the next six seasons. Much of the credit a huge concern PGE, which since 2007 has supported Bełchatów.
Icon Wlazły
Thanks to the considerable financial resources, the manager can build Konrad Piechocki power. He leaned against it by Mariusz Wlazłego, who for 12 years continuously weapons sparks of color. For all these seasons by the club from Belchatow, a host of international stars of the retina. Just to mention Stephane Antiga, the current coach of the Polish national team and Miguel Angel Falasca, who began last season coaching job in Belchatow since winning the Polish championship.
The Polish team game for years based on siatkarzach from Belchatow. The first championship for the “bees” have gained Piotr Gruszka and Krzysztof Ignaczak. The team sparks occurred senior stars such as Daniel Plińki, Marcin Możdżonek, David Murek, Michael Bąkiewicz, Bartosz Kurek, or Michael Winiarski (back to sparks before the current season).
The successes gained through the back door
Domination on domestic stock exchanges failed to translate into the Champions League. Three times Spark won medals in this competition: bronze in 2008 and 2010 and silver in 2012. It should be noted, however, that the Belchatow always used the back door by reaching the final tournament. Until now, I never won promotion to the top four through sports. Right to play in the Final Four to obtain an as host.
The closest Spark spectacular success was in 2012. After a dramatic finale in Lodz Atlas Arena and controversial decisions of judges in the final tie-break, lost to Zenit Kazan 2: 3.
At the same time, the Spark has lost the hegemonic power in the Polish league. For seven championship seasons many teams have tried to shed Bełchatów in the first place. He tried to Jastrzebski Coal, AZS UWM Olsztyn, or screw-Met Czestochowa. This play went just Asseco Resovia.
The restoration of power
Resovia is a club with a long tradition. At the beginning of the 70s four times gained the Polish championship, and in 1975 reached the second place in the Club World Cup. Since the 80s there was a crisis in Rzeszow retina, which managed to break only in the twenty-first century.
In the season 2003/2004 Resovia returned to the top league, and slowly began to build the custom-made for the Polish championship competition. Enormous contribution, as in the case of sparks, had a powerful sponsor – Asseco.
Asseco Poland is the largest IT company listed on the stock exchange. Its services are employed by over half of the banks in the country, the largest insurance companies, energy, telecommunications. Before the season 2006/2007 Asseco decided to support RESOVIA. Much of the credit CEO Adam Goral, strongly associated with Rzeszów, who started the business of manufacturing … ketchup.
Transfer hits
> Resovia opted for a slightly different way of development than Spark. Not drew the best players from the national parquet, but foreign boiled volleyball. In 2009, joined rzeszowian Olieg Achrem who became the leader of the team, both in sports and mental.
In Asseco also played Olympic champion Ryan Millar, or prominent Italian rider Matej Černič, but even so the club under Ljubomir Travicy leadership did not achieve anything spectacular. The breakthrough came after buying Georg Grozer in 2010, and employment on the bench coaching Andrew Smith. German attacker mightily admired his game on the dance floor RESOVIA PlusLigi and led to the gold medal in the 2011/2012 season. Grozer left as a hero fans. With VC Belogorie team won the championship of Russia first and then the Champions League and Club World Cup. It is now considered one of the best volleyball players in the world.
Leaving Grozer Resovii did not prevent the repetition of success and again in 2012/2013 to reach for the Polish championship gold. In the Champions League, but it was not so colorful. From Rzeszów regularly left the group, but jams in the playoffs and could not beat the more reputable opponents.
Why now?
This was only this year! This means that in the semi-finals of the Champions League play together two Polish clubs! One of them, for sure we will see in the fight for the most prestigious trophy in European club volleyball!
The stories of these two clubs look like a fairy tale. Both Asseco and Spark have powerful sponsors, are well managed, and their halls for every game filled with fanatical supporters. So why only now managed to achieve such a spectacular, historic success? It’s not only these two clubs have big ambitions. In the finals of the Champions League also played ZAKSA Kedzierzyn-Kozle and Jastrzebski Coal.
The reason is simple, in spite of all the aforementioned advantages, Polish clubs still lag behind the European financial terms to powers. They have no right to face the Russian petrodollars, as evidenced by the case Grozer. Germany was the star adored by fans, well felt in Rzeszow, has a Polish wife, but a huge offer from Russia would have persuaded everyone.
Turkish clubs also do not regret the money. Felipe Fonteles was ZAKS-ie those who Grozer in Rzeszow. However, he decided to move away to Fenerbahce Istanbul. The best players in Europe also buys Halkbank Ankara, who tempted before this season and Marcin Michal Kubiak Możdżonka.
This is why we should enjoy the success sparks and Resovii and appreciate the work done by Polish clubs to catch up, and even surpass the European krezusów.
