100 days before the start of Euro 2016 France has still not recovered after the November attacks in Paris, resulting in the deaths of 137 people. The country is still ongoing state of emergency – the Senate in February, it extended to the end of May. Meanwhile, UEFA admits that it is prepared for the possibility of acts of terrorism during the tournament.
– Safety first. We will not do anything that would expose fans. Together with the French Government discussed several scenarios to prepare to respond to terrorist threats during the matches – he said Tuesday in an interview with “SportBild” Euro 2016 director Martin Kallen.
– In the event of a real threat we extrapolate the game, the most the next day. Then the question remains whether the meeting would be held with the participation of the audience, or the empty stands. This second possibility is possible, if we are forced to move the match to another city – explains Kallen, who was also director of the organization during the championship in Poland and Ukraine in 2012 and in Austria and Switzerland four years earlier. – We are aware of the fact that fans holding tickets for the match in danger may not be able to quickly move to another city and find a hotel there. To put it bluntly, safety procedures and avoid human exposure to risk is a priority for us – emphasizes in an interview Kallen.
During the November terrorist attacks in Paris, three suicide bombers detonated explosives next to the Stade de France, which held a friendly match between France and Germany. The two of them planned to get to the stadium and there to make the attempt, but were stopped by security guards (blew themselves up on the run). The stadium was nearly 80 thousand. people, including President François Hollande, who in the first half of the match was evacuated.
ISIS announced further attacks in France, and sporting events are a frequent target of terrorists. During the marathon in Boston in 2013. Detonated two explosives (three victims). During the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996. Terrorists detonated a bomb near the Olympic Village. Then they killed two people and 112 were injured. Twenty-four years earlier in Munich, eight Palestinian terrorists organization “Black September” burst into the homes of representatives of Israel. As a result of the attack Palestinians killed 11 Israeli athletes and coaches.
– it had already been a big concern of the Euro. Now it is just stronger – said after the attacks, President of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Graet. However, says the chairman of the organizing committee of Euro 2016, Jacques Lambert, the event should be safe for the fans. – Procedures for stadium security work well. Greater threat on the streets during spontaneous zgromadzeń- said Lambert.
The aim of the terrorists may be the fan zone. The two largest rise in Paris and Marseille. And in these cities the Polish national team will play matches with Germany and Ukraine. The organizers ensure, however, that the zone will be safe. – Of the twelve challenges that we set before us, security is the most important – emphasized Lambert. – We made the decision together with the interior minister and the mayors of the cities organizing the fan zones should be maintained. For two reasons: to show that it is a feast for all the fans and at the same time, to a closed space better control of watching matches in larger – he explained.
– The concept of the fan zone was created, although before the attacks in November, but after the attack on Charlie Hebdo. The risk was therefore considered and never really was no way to fan the wife resign – said Jean-François Martins, deputy mayor of the town hall in the capital responsible for tourism. Even if it meant a huge logistical operation, as estimated by the Champ de Mars can enter up to 120 thousand people. And organizers have announced meticulous checks, which, moreover, already held at the entrances to shopping malls, or where there are large concentrations of people.
In addition to traditional law enforcement officials, in the middle of the zone is to be more than three hundred security agents, so that fans could calmly watch the matches on giant screens.
